William Reid John Brack, age 95 years, of Caro, MI passed away on Friday, July 16, 2010 at Masonic Pathways in Alma. He was born on February 18, 1915 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, son of Fredrick Brack and Jennie (Noble) Brack. Predeceased by his parents, his sister Frances (Brack) Beach and his loving wife of 52 years, Marion (Lockwood) Brack, “Reid” is survived by his daughters, Jean Brack Hudson (Keith) of Greenville and Cheryl Brack Mulford (Tracy) of Grand Rapids. He leaves behind a nephew Fred Beach (Ruth) of Ovid, grandnieces Elizabeth and Carolyn, grandnephew Evan as well as close family cousins. Many nieces, nephews and families from Marions side also share in Jean and Cheryls loss. Mr. Brack graduated from Brimley High School in 1933. He moved to the Pigeon area in the early 1940s where he worked on the Richmond farm. He also worked for Gulf Oil and the Pigeon Cooperative Elevator. Mid-career found him employed by the Smith Oil Company in Caro. In addition, he worked as a custodian at Caro United Methodist Church where he continued as “keeper of the keys” into his retirement. His passions were his family, gardening, music and visiting people. Reid and Marion sang in the Bay Chorale for a couple of years during the early years of his retirement. He was always ready to attend a concert involving his girls or any of his musical friends, Glenn Eastham, Nancy and Susan Reims. Most anything musical drew his attention as a chance to “get in the car and go.” Reid loved all types of gardening but concentrated on flower gardens in his retirement. He received Caro Garden Club honors for his lovely summer floral displays surrounding the family home on Pearl Street. Always one to lend a helping hand, Reid called on many friends who were ill or just in need of a friendly visit. All who knew Reid will miss him. Mr. Brack attended Caro United Methodist Church and participated in choir and the Sociables group. Reid was a life member of Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #226 in Caro for sixty-four years. He served as Grand Patron for Kedron Chapter #33, Order of the Eastern Star, while his wife was chapter pianist. Reid was also president for two groups, the Caro Band Boosters and the Watrousville-Caro Historical Society, the latter of which he was a lifetime member. He enjoyed being involved in these groups during his lifetime. Reid was in the loving care of Masonic Pathways staff during the past six years. The family cherishes their kindness shown to Reid and family members as well as their dedication to elder care. Per Reids wishes, cremation has taken place with burial to be in the Indianfields Township cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held at the Caro United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 24. Visitation will precede the service at 9:30 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m. and a luncheon to follow. A second service will be held on Thursday, August 26th in Doig Chapel at Masonic Pathways at l:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Masonic Pathways of Alma, MI, the Caro United Methodist Church music fund or Hospice of Michigan.
